In the French Kitchen: A Bastille Day Picnic Celebration
Saturday, July 13 | 12:00 PM – 2:30 PM
Demonstration class, taught by Laura DePalma Isabella, Chef-Instructor
Bastille Day is celebrated throughout France on July 14 and commemorates the storming of the Bastille in Paris in 1789. Of course, no French holiday would be complete without a delicious meal – and in this case, an elegantly casual outdoor le pique-nique! For many years, our family has been celebrating the day of French independence, setting up tables under the shade trees of our little orchard, decorating them with fresh flowers, candles and lots of French fare. For this relaxing event, we’ll be preparing a feast fit for a Parisian picnic, pairing light aperitifs with a charcuterie assortment of French cheeses, saucissons, olives, fresh fruit, and baguette as well as Pissaladière, a classic French onion tart. We’ll also enjoy Jambon-Beurresandwiches, classic Ratatouille, and Salade Niçoise before ending our meal with a Summer Fruit-Frangipane Galette à la Mode. Guests are also welcome to bring their own wine or beer (we recommend Sancerre, Champagne, and Kronnenbourg 1664 for this occasion). Vive la France!
